Transitioning from ISO 50001:2011 to ISO 50001:2018

Organizations transitioning from ISO 50001:2011 to ISO 50001:2018 will notice the 2018 version of the ISO 50001 Energy Management System (EnMS) uses the ISO’s Annex L High Level Structure (HLS). (Compare ISO 50001:2011 to ISO 50001:2018) This simplifies compatibility with other management system standards (MSS) like ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018.  (More on Integrating Standards) However, this means you’ll probably need to create an entirely new EnMS rather than modify your existing one.

Transition will be similar to a new implementation, but at least you have an understanding of some of the key terms. Follow these basic steps:

Simplified Transition to ISO 50001:2018

50001store provides tools to help organizations get certified to ISO 50001:2018, regardless of their current EnMS status:

By applying these packages your company can get ahead of the timeline and start preparing your organization, assessing the implementation of ISO 50001 and effectively prepare for your external audit.

Transition Period

With this release, ISO 50001:2011 will expire in three years from the publication date (August 21, 2018). If you are looking to keep a certificate valid after this deadline companies need to make sure they have completed transition within these 3 years. As transitioning takes time, we recommend that organizations start the process now in order to meet the deadline.
